Black Women Scholars' Job Market Retreat
Black Women Scholar's Job Market Virtual Weekend Retreat
June 7–8, 2025 (10 AM - 2 PM ET) | Virtual Weekend Retreat
The academic job market wasn’t built with Black women in mind—but we’re showing up anyway, with power, purpose, and clarity.
This retreat is designed to help you navigate the academic and alt-ac job search with confidence and strategy, without sacrificing your values or your well-being. Too often, Black women scholars are pushed to conform, overperform, and erase parts of ourselves to seem “marketable.” This space is here to disrupt that.
In this two-day retreat, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect, plan, and build materials that center your voice, your brilliance, and your vision. You’ll leave with tools to move through the job market on your own terms—not theirs.
This session is part of the From Dissertation to Legacy series, designed to support Black women scholars as they move through the final stages of the PhD journey and beyond. I created this space because I know how exhausting and disorienting the job search can feel—especially when you’re not willing to shrink in order to be seen. You shouldn’t have to figure it all out alone.
During this immersive retreat, you’ll:
Get clarity on the kind of work (and life) you actually want
Refine your job materials with strategy and intention
Learn how to position your research in ways that resonate across sectors
Prepare for interviews with authenticity and power
Build a plan for your next steps—whether inside or outside academia
Whether you're applying for tenure-track roles, postdocs, fellowships, or policy/nonprofit positions, this space is for you.
You are more than a candidate—you’re a whole force. This retreat will help you move like it.
